28. Vattenfall Berlin Halfmarathon
on April 06, 2008
On April 6, 2008, the Vattenfall BERLIN HALF-MARATHON will celebrate its 28th anniversary. While just a few years ago there were only 3,000 athletes at the start, the development in participation has been growing in quantum leaps since the millenium. What used to be considered the "little brother" of the real,- BERLIN MARATHON has developed into a great event of its own with more than 17,000 participants, drawing crowds of over 100,000.
It is used as an inaugural event for the season by both the general public as well as for the elite athletes. Whether it is used to test one's endurance before one of the spring classic marathons like London, Boston, Hamburg or Rotterdam, or as a light jog through the impressive backdrop of the city, the Vattenfall BERLIN HALF-MARATHON fulfils the manifold ambitions of all participants.
With its new attractive start and finish area in front of the Berlin Cathedral, one can truly call the course a sight-seeing tour through Berlin, and numerous samba bands heat up the mood and give it a Brazilian feeling.
That it is also possible to run fast here was proven in 2001 by the Spaniard Fabián Roncero, who became on of the few people to run the 21.0975 km course under an hour, finishing in 59:52 and setting a new European record. The straight and flat course is ideal for improving your personal best time.
